Wobec aresztowań, które dotknęły w ostatnich dniach 216 chińskich chrześcijan, poseł PiS do PE Konrad Szymański przekazał interpelację do Wysokiej Przedstawiciel ds. Polityki Zagranicznej UE Catherine Ashton oraz wniosek o debatę w Parlamencie Europejskim.

"Powszechne i arbitralne zatrzymania, odrzucenie prawa do miejsca kultu, naruszenie wolności zgromadzeń, wolności słowa i innych podstawowych praw dowodzą najsilniejszych od lat prześladowań chrześcijan oraz kościołów w Chinach"- czytamy m.in. w interpelacji, która może posłużyć także, jako podstawa debaty.

W innym wypadku poseł PiS wnioskuje o debatę pilną (urgencies), która mogłaby się odbyć 12 maja w Strasburgu.

Konrad Szymański w dziś zgłoszonej interpelacji domaga się poruszenia tej sprawy w ramach Dialogu Praw Człowieka UE-Chiny, umieszczenia problematyki wolności religijnej w ramach Szczytu UE-Chiny, który ma mieć miejsce w czasie trwania polskiej prezydencji oraz wydania deklaracji Wysokiej Przedstawiciel ds. Polityki Zagranicznej w tej sprawie.

In the last two weeks a worrying increase of the persecutions of Christians was noted in  China:

On Sunday April 10th, 169 persons were detained by the police in Zhongguancun in Beijing. A week after, on Sunday April 17th, police arrested 47 persons in northwest Beijing. During those weeks several were interrogated, kept in police or home arrest.

The widespread arbitrary detentions, the rejection of the right to place of worship, the infringement on the freedom of assembly, freedom of speech and other fundamental freedoms are evidence of the largest crackdown on Christian's churches in China since years.

What is the High Representative's reaction to these events, especially in front of the coming Sunday, which is the biggest Christian feast, Easter, and worshippers will attempt to meet in an open-air public space again? Will there be a statement or a declaration issued condemning the recent detentions? Is there anything the High Representative can do to prevent the situation from repeating?

How is the right of freedom of religion included in the EU-China Human Rights Dialogue? Has there been any action taken so far, especially regarding the treatment of the unofficial churches?

Is the problem of the fundamental rights, with particular attention to the right of freedom of religion and belief, going to be a part of the agenda for the next EU - China Summit at the end of the year 2011?
