Jak informuje "Gazeta Polska Codziennie", 21 marca na stronie kanadyjskiej firmy producenckiej Cineflix ukazała się lista odcinków 12. sezonu popularnego serialu dokumentalnego „Mayday” („Air Crash Investigation”) emitowanego w Polsce pod tytułem „Katastrofy w przestworzach” i „Podniebny terror”. Seria „Mayday” jest emitowana m.in. w Discovery Channel i National Geographic Channel.

W "GPC" czytamy:

Tematem ukazującego się od 2003 r. cyklu są śledztwa wyjaśniające przyczyny katastrof lotniczych. Zapowiedziany na nadchodzący sezon dziesiąty z trzynastu odcinków ma dotyczyć katastrofy w Smoleńsku. (...)

Zapowiedź brzmi: „Odcinek 10 pt. »Following orders« (»Wykonując rozkazy«). Katastrofa Tu-154 polskich sił powietrznych. W dniu 10 kwietnia 2010 r. samolot wiozący polskiego prezydenta Lecha Kaczyńskiego i jego żonę rozbił się podczas lądowania na lotnisku Smoleńsk Północny. Wszystkie 96 osób znajdujących się na pokładzie zginęło. Przyczyną katastrofy był błąd pilota. Typ samolotu: Tupolew Tu-154M. Przyczyna katastrofy: CFIT, błąd pilota.”

CFIT (Controlled flight into terrain – „kontrolowany lot ku ziemi”) – pojęcie opisujące wypadek, kiedy pilot leci zgodnie z planem, lecz na skutek złych warunków atmosferycznych zderzy sprawną pod względem technicznym maszynę z przeszkodą naziemną.

"GPC" dodaje: wygląda na to, że twórcy scenariusza, przygotowując materiały do filmu, wzięli pod uwagę wyłącznie raport MAK-u.

Mimo wielokrotnych prób redakcji „Codziennej” nie udało się skontaktować z producentami filmu, którymi są André Barro, Bernard Vaillot i Greg Gransden.

W związku z powyższym dziennikarz Łukasz Warzecha wystosował do produkującej serię firmy Cinefix list w języku angielskim, w którym zwraca uwagę na bardzo liczne wątpliwości związane z filmem:

Among the episodes of the season 12 of your "Mayday" documentary series, to be shown on National Geographic Channel, you list episode 10: 'Following Orders' about the fatal crash of a Polish Air Force Tupolev 154 M in Smolensk in April 2010 in which all 96 passengers including Polish President and his wife perished.

The title 'Following Orders', and the information that a pilot's error will be presented as the cause of the crash, suggests that your film might be based on a version of events presented a year ago by the Russian Air Accidents Commission MAK. Therefore I would like to ask you to answer the following questions:

Is that correct that 'Following Orders' will be based on the Russian report and that it will definitely present a pilot's error as the cause of the crash?


If it is so, please answer the following questions:

Are you aware of huge political controversies concerning the chain of events, the investigation and above all the Russian report itself including its hypothesis about a pilot's error?

Are you aware of the fact that the Russian report was to a great extend contradicted by the Polish government report which, among other things, quoted the order of the captain of the aircraft, recorded by the flight recorder, to cease the landing procedure? These words were omitted by the Russian report.

Are you aware that the Russian report totally neglected the very questionable behaviour of the team at the airport including the air controllers?

Are you aware that the Polish special investigative committee presented to the public a recording of the conversations at the tower in Smolensk which showed an utter chaos and proved that the Polish pilots had been purposefully misinformed about the situation at the airport and about the course of the aircraft?

Are you aware that in the past few months new facts were revealed which totally discredit the Russian report, e.g. analysis of the situation after the crash confirmed that General Andrzej Błasik, Polish Airforce Chief, was not present in the cockpit, contrary to what the Russian report said, at the moment of the crash? This is an official statement of the Polish military prosecutors team.

Are you aware of the fact that the Polish investigation is still going on and far from finished?
Are you aware of the fact that, due to the wreck having been detained by the Russians, Polish prosecutors and experts have not been able to thoroughly examine it to corroborate or falsify the Russian version of the events?

Are you aware of the fact that there is actually no definitive version of the events and the hypothesis of the pilot's error is far from proved?
